Wacky Jack

NEWSFLASH: You can now make comments in the comment section without having your own blogspot blog. I figured it out...yay me!

Also, I've decided to keep it easy on myself and update this blog just once a week. So check back every Sunday afternoon or so...and remember to refresh.

Jack's Social Security card arrived on Friday, just in time for his 4th week.
Welcome to the wonderful world of bureaucracy, newly-real-person Jack.

Bank accounts shortly.

Believe it or not, he really dug the rattle. I thought he'd still be a little young to start focusing on shiny things, but apparently not.
I think the rattling is caused by bees knees. Yum.

And there he is, happy as clam. Awwww.

Old Man Jack

Jet forward two weeks to Jack's 3rd weekend. He's grown and we've adjusted a little more. I think he's figured out that the peoples are awake in the daytime and sleepy at night. He just has to adjust his bladder. It'll happen!!!!! Oh, and adjust the hunger every 2-3 hours. His formula intake is double the quantity what it was 2 weeks ago and I think we've figured out that pee's come in two's. First pee makes him squirm a little, but the impending 2nd pee makes him cry out. So we change him, warily aware that that thing could go off at anytime. Then, if it hasn't gone off before, right after we've made the change, he'll have pee'd the 2nd time and we've got to do it again. Not a problem. Believe it or not, changing diapers becomes 2nd nature. Really. Yeah, yeah. We have a cloth diaper service, which rocks.

My ol' buddie Jay and his wife had a son just 5 weeks before us. That's him and new dude Trent above. He suggested The Happiest Baby for those trouble times. Although Michelle knew most of it already, there was definately some helpful advice. I recommend.

We've had a few visitors, but I think it's time for the calvacade of Jack worshipers to queue up. So if you're in the area, come on by and see the lil' feller (and us!). Just call beforehand.

Michelle's relations from London dropped by today and a good time was had by all. That's Declan, Liz, their daughters Katherine, Claire and Grace in there with the home crew.

For some reason, Claire had to buy the fake beard. Which is a pretty silly thing to buy. Why would anyone buy one of those crazy things.

Oh, yeah...baby mullet!!!

Happy Jack

I noticed on Jack's one week birthday (yesterday) that with the hiccups, Jack sounds like a pair of clown shoes, all squeaky, abrupt and comical.

We caught him in a moment of weakness actually smiling. It happens after a good bit with the bottle.

Jack Settles In

UPDATE: if you are planning on stopping by on Sunday, please call ahead. I think we are postponing visiting day until a later date. All is well, it's just that chores build up and we'd like the weekend to do them.

It's the schedule that has to be worked out. Not his. He's only a few days old and we really can't pressure him with timecards and a blackberry.

Our schedule however, has to gell pretty quickly, or else we'll all go crazy from lack of sleep. This was foreseen, 'cause we read books and listen to other parents. That's just the way we are. But the hard cold fact of dealing with a newborn can only be experienced first hand to be fully realized.

The first night was tooooouuuuughh. The second easier. And the third, well, we'll see tonight. I go back to work tomorrow, so the pressure is on Michelle and her Mom to get some rest tonight to fill in for the absent player (me).

Pee has been in the air. And on Michelle. And other places. Not on me yet, but it's just a matter of time. Do not asked for whom the pee spritzes. It spritzes for thee.

Still, he's a trooper, a real cutie pie, with intelligence in his eyes.

Oh and by the way, thanks to everyone for the messages and congratulations (mostly offsite). Your notes really give us confidence and warm our spirits. He's a special, loved boy and it's good to know we have all of this support.

Double thanks to folks who have chipped in with baby supplies and gifts. Tremendously helpful!!!!!

UPDATE: This Sunday is visitor day. Come on by and see John Liam any time after 10:00am and before 7:00pm.

John Liam Comes Marching Home

Well...allllright. Maybe not marching, but sauntering inside the baby carrier. He experienced his first parking garage, his first lady wearing a plum colored pant suit, his first car, his first stop sign, his first right and the left turns. Down his first hill (steep, steep San Francisco), he's a local boy, all the way. Down the train tracks, down our street for his first time, then up the garage steps, and boom; trumpets, red carpets, heralds and more fanfare, into his home, our home, his castle, kingdom and playpen.

Much pooping will commence soon, I thinks.
